Do you know where your coffee comes from? Today we know about 110 wild coffee species. Ten of these were only discovered in the last 25 years by researchers at Meise Botanical Garden. They have been the knowledge center for wild coffee varieties in Central Africa for more than a century and contribute to genetic and chemical research on coffee. Piet Stoffelen has been a researcher at the Meise Botanical Garden for more than 30 years. He will give us an exclusive tour of the different coffee collections in the Meise Botanical Garden.
We do this in the presence of an extra special guest. In September we will be visited by Victoria Dutra. She is the daughter of Ednilson Dutra, together with his brother Walter, the owners of Fazendas Dutra. We have been purchasing coffee from them in Brazil via Direct Trade for almost 15 years. A bond of friendship that we would like to celebrate with you in the Botanical Garden. During our visit, Victoria will briefly talk about how things are going on the farm in Brazil. Coffee prices have been an important topic in the media in recent months, but rarely is there space for the perspective of the coffee farmer at the origin.
