Discover the essence of our Gedeb Chelbesa: A specialty coffee from Ethiopia for filter

Welcome to the beautiful landscape of Gedeb in Ethiopia. Where we collaborate with Abera Teshome to serve you a delicious filter coffee. Chelbesa is a washing station in the highlands of the Gedeb area. At altitudes over 2000 meters this is the ideal environment to cultivate exceptional coffee. This filter coffee offers a delicate and complex profile with notes of coffee blossom, peach, green tea, and Brazil nut. A nice acidity (malic/citric) combined with a silky body delivers a perfect balance of flavor and texture, inviting you to enjoy every sip.

At OR Coffee Roasters, we believe that knowing the story behind your coffee makes every cup even more special. Our latest Ethiopian filter coffee from Chelbesa is a tribute to the dedication of the farmers in the Gedeb region. Abera Teshome, a small farmer, sells his coffee through Ephtah Specialty Coffee. They focus on microlots that showcase the unique terroir of this region. This coffee is fully washed for a clean and crisp mouthfeel, reflecting the craftsmanship and care that goes into every step of production.

Ephtah Specialty Coffee was established to build a sustainable collaborative supply chain for the benefit of coffee farmers and their communities. They take a specific interest in promoting the role of women within the industry. As women are often the main driver of positive social and economic change in Ethiopia.

2. The Gedeb Region

The Gedeb region is home to over 300,000 people, with a rich cultural history where Christian Protestant and Orthodox communities coexist. At an altitude of over 2000 meters, the highlands of Gedeb are perfect for producing high-quality coffee. By drinking this coffee you are supporting Abera and other smallholders in their pursuit of excellence.

Each cup tells a story: at Chelbesa, where the Siqe River flows and the annual New Year festival brings the community together. The Siqe river acts as the border between Gedeo and Guji and also the Southern regional state from Oromia. It’s not just about coffee, we feel very blessed at OR Coffee that we can represent this community with their delicious coffee.

This coffee is roasted for filter. For this reason we love this coffee brewed on Chemex. The method gives the coffee a nice tea-like mouthfeel and a strong coffee blossom aroma. Do you prefer more texture and fruityness in your cup? Then try this coffee on Kalita or V60.

Tasting this coffee for the first time, we were surprised with the floral aromas, flavour of ripe peach and a juicy acidity.
