At OR Coffee Roasters, we believe understanding the journey of your coffee enhances every sip. Our Colombia Sugar Cane Decaf comes from the Caldas cooperative, founded in 1960, which is made up of over 3,600 small family farms. These producers, spread across eleven municipalities in the Manzanares and Marquetalia regions, grow high-quality coffee on plots smaller than five hectares. By choosing this decaf, you’re supporting a cooperative that has been a cornerstone of Colombian coffee production for decades.

Located in central Colombia, Caldas is historically known as a key player in the country’s coffee industry. While Huila now leads in coffee volume, Caldas remains a vital region for specialty coffee, with 13,000 producers focused on high-quality beans. The region’s altitude and climate provide the perfect conditions for growing Castillo and Caturra varieties, which are then decaffeinated using a unique sugar cane process.

Our Colombia Sugar Cane Decaf undergoes a natural decaffeination process that uses ethyl acetate (EA), extracted from sugar cane. This method is gentle on the coffee beans, preserving the flavor while removing the caffeine. The beans are first steamed, and then the EA binds with the caffeine, leaving behind delicious notes of sugar cane and chocolate.
